In March 2016 the 5 Senses submitted a bid to the Hull City of Culture team in the hopes that it would receive funding which would enable the charity to become part of the 2017 celebrations.
The bid focused on two street performances, and one end of year show with the first street performance intending to be in March 2017. This aimed to be a maritime production which our students would perform alongside local folk musicians who would work with them to create the piece.
The second street performance hoped to explore the subjects of both slavery and disability, this piece was intended to be performed within the “Freedom” part of the year around September time. If successful, students would be working with both local musicians and artists to create a contemporary and thought-provoking piece which would leave the audience challenged and inspired.
The final part of the bid was for an end of year performance, this would be a show similar to our 10 Year Anniversary, however we would be doing this on a larger scale. Within the project we planned for a bigger venue, better technology, more spectacular performances and of course we would be asking the musicians and artists we had worked with throughout the year to take part in the final event.
We can now announce that our application has been successful and the 5 Senses will be part of the Hull City of Culture 2017!
Look out for project title “Culture of 5, Hull’s Alive!”
